Join us for our Autumn 2026 term: our choir has no auditions, you don’t have to be able to read music, and singing together is both healthy and joyous!
Dates and fees
Our first rehearsal will be on Tuesday 22nd September and we’ll continue until Tuesday 1st December, except for 27th October, when the school is closed for half-term. New members should just turn up at a rehearsal and try out an evening for free, but you’re strongly recommended to start on either 22nd or 29th September.
On each Tuesday evening we’ll rehearse from 7.30pm to 9.30pm, at William Ellis School, Highgate Road NW5 1RN.
The fee for this term is £70. We continue to offer a £10 concession fee to students and those receiving working-age benefits.
Music
This term’s theme is music for choir, brass and keyboard: who doesn’t love a bit of brass? Our director Ian writes:
We’ll be singing Rutter’s Gloria, Chilcott’s Jubilate (both modern) and Gabrielli’s O Magnum Mysterium (dating back to the 16thC). And there will be carols.
It is over 40 years since NCC performed Rutter’s Gloria and in my view it is one of his best and most exciting pieces. Its outer movements are exuberant and energetic whilst the central movement is more prayerful.
Bob Chilcott was one of the founding members of the King’s Singers and has subsequently forged a successful career composing contemporary, appealing and accessible music, much of it for choirs. Whilst the Jubilate has its extrovert moments it is more reflective and cool in its language.
Giovanni Gabrielli composed his haunting O Magnum Mysterium to take advantage of the layout and acoustics in the Basilica of St. Mark’s in Venice..
