Join us to sing this Autumn!

The best north London choir* is back again for another term of wonderful warbling.

Our first rehearsal of the Autumn term will be on Tuesday 17 September. Join us from 7pm to register yourself for the term.

We’ll be singing:

  • Handel’s Coronation Anthems, and
  • Bach’s Cantata Wachet Auf, ruft uns die Stimme, widely known as Sleepers Awake! along with
  • a selection of Christmas music

We’ll rehearse every Tuesday at 7.30pm at William Ellis School in Highgate, London (except for half term on 22 October) and then perform these pieces in concert on Saturday 14 December at St Mary Brookfield church as usual.

Here are some links to useful learning resources for these pieces.

About the music

Handel’s Coronation Anthems were first performed at the coronations of George II of Great Britain and Queen Caroline in 1727.

Fun fact: At the coronation, the choir of Westminster Abbey sang Zadok the Priest (one of the anthems) in the wrong part of the service; they had earlier entirely forgotten to sing one anthem and another ended “in confusion” (Ref: Wikipedia).

Sounds like the perfect choice for us! 😀

Not only that, but you might recognise it as the UEFA Champions League Anthem (rearranged by Tony Britten in 1992):

Joining us for the first time?

We’re a friendly north London choir. If you haven’t sung with the North Camden Chorus before, we look forward to seeing you there!

You’re welcome to try us out for a week or two before you commit to the term, and don’t worry, there’s no audition. It helps if you can read music, but again, it’s not necessary. If you’re not sure whether you’re a soprano, alto, tenor or bass, just speak to our choir leader.

To join our mailing list, just email us at contact@ncchorus.org.uk and you can join us on Facebook to meet more of our choir members too.

Help us recruit more singers

Can you put up a poster in a local shop, on a noticeboard at work or in your community, in your front window, or anywhere where potential singers can see it and find out more about our choir? Please help us spread the word!
